A failure

We went out on a mission yesterday, and failed miserably.

I needed to go to a small village called Long Crendon in Oxfordshire to collect something and the idea was to work our way back via the Cotswolds and attempt to reach our 00th cache in the process. We only needed 17 to manage it, we eventually managed a meagre 9!

Unfortunately, we approached the first cache of the day from the wrong end of a bridle path and ended up fighting our way through a massively overgrown, stinging nettle infested (we were both in shorts) virtually unused public footpath. When we got to the cache site, not only did we find that from the other direction it was a straightforward 300 yard walk, but we couldn’t find the cache either – Doh!

Rather than fight our way back the way we came, we decided to go out onto the road to get back to the car. The only problem, we had to go in a big circle to get there. So, we wasted just over an hour and logged………nothing! Not the best of starts. We had a coffee and a quick bite to eat, did a quick cache in the village and headed off to Lower Slaughter – what a great name for a place, I would like to have logged our 100th cache there but sadly no.

Anyway, throughout the rest of the day we managed a further 3 DNF’s which suitably wasted plenty more time and in the end admitted defeat.

Oh well, it was a nice day for it and we ended up walking just under 14 miles in some extremely pleasant countryside. We have 8 to get now and that won’t take long.
