Mega geo-cycle day.

Yesterday we set out on ge0-cycle day with Hanbury Hall as our final destination.

After a late and shaky start, we found our first cache GC1ATZV at 11.25am.

27 caches later (including 3 DNF’s) at just after 5pm – we arrived at Hanbury Hall. It was just closing! Oh well, not to worry, we have been here several times before and no doubt will be here again in the not too distant future.

One thing, which I have to say annoyed me slightly, was that whist I was availing myself of the facilities, Mrs Dafthead was approached by one of the members of staff and asked how we had got there. Had we come in through the main entrance and were we members? Well, we have been National Trust and English Heritage members for years now, but no, we didn’t come through the front entrance as normal, we had come across country from the canal, on our bikes, on “Public Footpaths” She told my wife that we were supposed to be checked in to make sure we were members?? They are Public Footpaths!! I think that means that anyone, member or not, has the right of way?

If I can be bothered, then at some stage I think I might write a letter and challenge the National Trust to justify it’s staff members high and mighty attitude.

Ok, off my soapbox.

We finally returned home at around 9pm after 23 finds, one geocoin retrieval and 3 DNF’s.

Several stiles were navigated successfully with our bikes and one rain shower necessitated a visit to the pub at the final cache of the day GC20AAT aptly named “Fancy a Pint” Life can be tough as a geocacher!

All in all, a successful, if strenuous day out, but all in a days geocaching.
