The first ever cache we tried to find was West Heath Park GC223TH, unfortunately, it was also our first failure.
Some time later we made a second visit and tried again, this time with more experience and a lot more idea of the sort of things we should be looking out for. After a good 20 minutes search, we again gave up and I put the cache in my watch list because I was fairly convinced that it had been muggled.
On the 18th June, it was found.
So, today I had some spare time on my hands and with my mother and her pooch, we went walkies in the park. After 30 minutes or so it was looking like yet another failure and I was beginning to scratch my head again. My mother decided to check an area we hadn’t looked at so far and as I was convinced that I was already in the right area I casually lent and watched. As I stood and watched, I suddenly noticed a very suspicious object only a few inches from me (trying not to give too much away here) A quick check and it was a long awaited eureka moment – the cache was in hand!
What’s really frustrating is that the second time we had visited I was looking for exactly what I found. Today I double checked for the same thing again before almost missing it!
What’s really great is the sense of elation when you find one that’s been particularly difficult. Even my mom said she was dead chuffed. Geocaching at it’s best!
Mind you, I sometimes wonder if I am going blind, senile or just plain stupid as I am getting older. I definitely don’t think I’d be much good in the observer corps!
